Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and deliver scalable enterprise applications for healthcare payer operations. You will work with architects, product owners, and platform teams to build secure, high-performing solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Python, cloud technologies, and modern data platforms.

You will contribute to performance, reliability, and CI/CD improvements, while mentoring teammates and upholding engineering best practices in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and REST API development.
• Hands-on Python and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
• Experience with cloud and container technologies, including AWS (EC2, EMR, RDS, S3, Athena), Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Experience with CI/CD and software quality tools such as GitLab, CloudWatch, JUnit, and Mockito.
• Experience working within the Healthcare Payer domain.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance scalable microservices-based applications using Java, Spring Boot, Python, and cloud-native technologies.
• Build and optimize backend services, APIs, and database solutions that support high-volume healthcare payer operations and business workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, estimate effort, and deliver high-value features through Agile development practices.
• Improve application performance, reliability, and scalability by identifying bottlenecks, implementing monitoring solutions, and resolving production issues.
• Contribute to code quality, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and engineering best practices through code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
