Job summary

Wissen Technology in Chicago seeks an AVP/VP to lead a high‑performance Java platform for market data. You will own feed handlers, event processing, and latency‑critical paths, collaborating with trading and infrastructure teams.

Ideal candidates have 8–12 years’ experience, graduate degree in CS or engineering, and proven ability to tune JVM, optimize memory, and implement low‑latency designs. The role is onsite with hybrid options and offers extensive growth within a global tech consulting

Qualifications

• Java 17/21 with strong JVM internals including memory model, JIT, and GC behavior.
• Low-allocation techniques and off-heap buffers.
• Concurrency using lock-free patterns and memory barriers (VarHandles).
• Networking and market data messaging (TCP/UDP, multicast, kernel bypass).
• Experience with FIX protocol and market data semantics.

Responsibilities

• Build feed handlers, event processing pipelines, and distribution components on the critical path.
• Design event flows preserving ordering and handling gaps and recovery under load.
• Benchmark latency at p50/p99/p99.9 and prevent regressions.
• Diagnose production latency issues with JVM profilers and Linux tools.
• Support capacity planning, failover design, and on-call production coverage.

Required skills:

Build and tune Java components for a high-throughput, ultra-low-latency market data platform. You'll own feed handlers, event processing, normalization, and distribution paths where latency is measured in microseconds, working alongside trading and infrastructure teams.

Responsibilities

• Build feed handlers, event processing pipelines, and distribution components on the critical path
• Design event flows that preserve ordering and handle gaps, recovery, and conflation under load
• Benchmark latency at p50/p99/p99.9 and prevent regressions
• Diagnose production latency issues with JVM profilers and Linux tooling
• Support capacity planning, failover design, and production on-call

Must-Have Skills

• Java 17/21 with strong JVM internals — memory model, JIT, GC behavior
• Low-allocation programming: object pooling, off-heap buffers
