Job summary

PitchBook, a Morningstar company, is hiring a Lead Software Development Engineer for the Frontier Data Platform. You will design, build, and own ingestion, correlation, enrichment, and surface of billions of records across PitchBook's products.

This is a hands-on role leading a small, high-ownership team, setting design quality and engineering craft. You will work with partners globally and drive technical direction, architecture choices, and the roadmap for platform capabilities, including

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field.
• 7+ years of backend software engineering, with Java on production systems at scale.
• Experience leading a small, high-ownership team without a large org.
• Cloud infrastructure experience (GCP preferred, AWS acceptable).
• Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must be able to work onsite in Seattle.

Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor, and lead a small team of software engineers.
• Write production-grade backend code daily — services, pipelines, APIs.
• Lead system design for new platform capabilities: ingestion pipelines, entity resolution, enrichment workflows, search indexing strategies.
• Own the technical quality of the team's output: code reviews, architecture decisions, performance, reliability, observability.
• Collaborate with EM, product, and partner teams on requirements and technical direction.
• Mentor engineers through code, design discussions, and direct pairing.
• Identify and drive down technical debt that limits velocity or reliability.
• Own services and applications and related infrastructure, ensuring quality, stability, and performance in production.
