Job summary

Optum Tech, part of UnitedHealth Group, seeks an experienced Full Stack Developer to join our agile team. You will design, develop, test, and deploy scalable web applications and REST APIs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.

The role supports remote work across the U.S.; some locations may require in-office presence. Strong background in Java, ReactJS, and microservices is essential, along with familiarity with AI tooling.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a full stack developer.
• 5+ years of experience with Java.
• 5+ years of experience utilizing Agile / Scrum methodology.
• 4+ years of experience with ReactJS.
• 3+ years of experience with Splunk and MongoDB (preferred).
• 1+ years of experience with Python.
• 1+ years of experience writing Java and React code using AI tools like Copilot, codex or Claude.
• Experience with Microservices.
• Experience working with at least one of the following: CI/CD tools, REST API development, Serverless, Containerization, Infrastructure as Code, Cloud platforms, Observability, Messaging/stream architecture.

Responsibilities

• Plan, analyze, design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software across the full development lifecycle.
• Emphasize automated testing while performing manual testing as needed.
• Deliver high quality, secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications that enhance the customer experience.
• Foster a high performance, collaborative engineering environment.
• Mentor and support the development of new and existing team members.
• Present and demonstrate solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Design, develop, and maintain web applications and REST APIs.
• Participate in peer reviews of solution designs and code to ensure best practices and quality standards.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, business analysts, and engineers to deliver innovative solutions.
• Contribute to user story development and task estimation in an Agile environment.
• Adhere to development best practices while delivering solutions on time and within budget.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize applications to improve performance and reliability.
