Job summary

Intone Networks Inc. in Seattle is seeking a Full Stack Java Engineer to lead a 12+ month migration of Kafka workloads to AWS MSK and to design event-driven applications against modern microservices.

You will implement Java/Spring Boot backends, REST APIs, and frontend work with React or Angular where needed, collaborating with DevOps and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable, secure, and observable streaming solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with Java-based enterprise apps.
• 5+ years of Java (8/11/17), Spring Boot, RESTful API development.
• 5+ years of deep Kafka experience including producers/consumers and related components.
• 5+ years migrating workloads to AWS MSK, including MSK Connect/Serverless.
• 5+ years of AWS services experience (IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Lambda, S3, Secrets Manager).
• 5+ years building full-stack apps with React or Angular.
• 5+ years of CI/CD pipelines, IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation), and Docker/Kubernetes.
• 5+ years working with SQL/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB).
• Strong distributed systems and event-driven architecture knowledge.
• Experience supporting large-scale migrations with minimal downtime.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead migration of on-prem or self-managed Kafka clusters to AWS MSK, planning, sizing, replication, production cutovers.
• Design, develop, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices and REST APIs that publish/consume Kafka events.
• Build full-stack apps using React or Angular where required.
• Refactor Kafka producers/consumers for MSK, IAM, TLS, networking, and security best practices.
• Optimize Kafka performance via partitioning, replication, retention, and consumer groups.
• Implement monitoring/observability with CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
• Develop migration strategies: validation, dual-read/dual-write, rollback, production readiness.
• Collaborate with DevOps to provision infra with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Ensure secure implementations with encryption, IAM, mTLS, SASL/SCRAM.
• Troubleshoot application/streaming/infrastructure issues.
• Produce technical docs, migration runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote Kafka/AWS best practices.
