Job summary

The Texas Department of Public Safety is seeking a Java Engineer / Programmer to join a hybrid team in Austin, TX. Primary work location: 5805 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. The role blends on-site work with telework.

Responsibilities include coding, testing, debugging, and documenting software for large applications, with emphasis on Java and SQL, under Agile practices. Normal hours are 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• 15 years, required - JAVA experience.
• 15 years, required - SQL database experience.
• 8 years, required - sustaining and development experience in support of large applications in a team environment.
• 5 years, required - Linux.
• 8 years, required - Atlassian tool suite, especially JIRA.
• 8 years, required - Agile methodology.

Responsibilities

• Oversee coding, testing, and debugging of programs per requirements and prepare test data.
• Oversee development of flowcharts and diagrams.
• Prepare instructions for production runs and end-user manuals.
• Lead and coordinate research and analysis for projects.
• Analyze applications for equipment needs; write/run SQL, deploy packages/triggers, revise programs.
