Texas Department of Public Safety is seeking a Senior Java Engineer / Programmer in Austin, TX. The role is hybrid (on-site and telework) at 5805 N Lamar Blvd, with hours Mon–Fri 8:00–17:00 and some evenings/weekends as needed. Requires extensive JAVA/SQL experience and a strong background in enterprise applications.

Qualifications

• 15 years of JAVA experience required.
• 10 years of SQL database experience required.
• 8 years sustaining and development experience in large applications in a team environment.
• 5 years Linux experience required.
• 8 years with Atlassian tools, especially JIRA.
• 8 years Agile methodology experience.
• 2 years preferred—experience with Texas state applications.
• 2 years preferred—experience transitioning legacy mainframe to Java/SQL.

Responsabilités

• Oversee coding, testing, and debugging of programs per system requirements and prepare test data.
• Develop flowcharts/diagrams for projects and ensure proper production instructions.
• Lead development of project proposals, software modifications, and new projects.
• Analyze proposed applications for equipment needs, evaluate DB schemas, write/run SQL, deploy packages/triggers.
• Troubleshoot by analyzing logs, memory/disk usage, and system messages.
• Coordinate with staff to schedule work and manage programming projects.
• Prepare detailed analyses, plans, diagrams, and verification procedures for existing and proposed applications.
• Develop standards and procedures for programming staff and interfaces/reports.
• Create and implement specialized programs to supplement systems software.
• Suggest and implement changes to improve application and system performance.
• Establish backup/restore processes for business continuity.
• Coordinate, assign, and track work of team members.
• Maintain regular attendance and adhere to agency hours.
