Position Overview

Seeking a senior Java developer with 10-20 years of industry experience, specializing in backend development. The candidate should be a well-rounded professional with strong communication skills and a 'chill' demeanor, capable of leading and coordinating within a team. The role is a 12-month remote position, W2 only, supporting a Federal Health Client in advancing open-source solutions within the laboratory domain.

Responsibilities

1. Test and edit code to support seamless user experiences using Java, under the guidance of Java and JavaFX experts.
2. Coordinate with backend data and service layer leads, overseeing team execution and delivery.
3. Edit existing code and designs, ensuring accessibility across browsers, platforms, and devices, meeting security and accessibility standards.
4. Guide and oversee development activities of the core team, delegating tasks and aligning Java development with other workstreams.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 9 years of UI development experience in Java, specifically for desktop applications.
• Proficiency in Java (JavaFX preferred) and enterprise application development tools.
• Experience with concurrent programming, data structures, algorithms, and responsive UI development.
• Knowledge of modern software development practices and tools.
• Experience with web services, serialization, embedded databases, and project management tools like Maven.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4+ years of Java application development, including JavaFX GUI experience.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
• Experience with Health IT, HL7, and related systems.
• Knowledge of UI best practices, CSS, containerization, and communication protocols like gRPC, RMI, WebSocket, REST.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks, code quality metrics, and algorithms.
