Job summary

Proximity Works is seeking experienced Java Backend Engineers to power our Subscriptions and Payments ecosystem. You will work on Fire TV IAP capabilities and build services for subscriptions, payments, entitlements and transaction processing.

The role requires delivering highly available, fault-tolerant systems that stay performant during major traffic spikes, including live events. Responsibilities include designing scalable backend services with Java and Spring Boot, building REST APIs and

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience with a focus on high-scale services.
• Strong knowledge of Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, concurrency and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL databases; NoSQL is a plus.
• Experience with Redis caching.
• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems.
• Familiarity with AWS or similar cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong debugging and performance optimization skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Develop high-performance REST APIs and microservices for subscriptions, payments and entitlements.
• Build backend capabilities for subscriptions, payments and user entitlements.
• Implement Fire TV IAP purchase and subscription workflows.
• Integrate with app stores, payment providers and external platform APIs.
• Build workflows for purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds and state changes.
• Design reliable, idempotent transaction-processing systems.
• Handle retries, failures, reconciliation and eventual consistency across distributed services.
• Build event-driven and asynchronous workflows using messaging systems.
• Design systems that can handle high throughput and sudden traffic spikes.
• Optimize service latency, throughput, scalability and infrastructure utilization.
• Improve observability through logging, metrics, tracing and alerting.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues across distributed services.
• Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews and technical-design discussions.
