Job summary

Cognizant in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to design and build scalable cloud-based backend services using Java, Spring, and related technologies.

You will collaborate with product managers, tech leads, and developers to translate business requirements into reliable solutions, participate in CI/CD, testing, and observability, and guide technical design and documentation.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development experience with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Data JPA.
• Hands-on experience developing scalable backend applications in a cloud environment.
• Strong experience with Apache Kafka or similar messaging/queueing technology.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and modern deployment practices.
• Experience working in an Agile Scrum environment with stakeholders.

In This Role, You Will

• Design, develop, and implement scalable backend applications and analytics solutions using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and cloud technologies.
• Translate business requirements into effective technical solutions and confidently lead technical discussions with product managers, technical leads, and other stakeholders.
• Build high-quality application features by following industry coding standards, developing unit tests, and meeting established code-coverage expectations.
• Support the complete software delivery lifecycle, including application testing, CI/CD deployment, production release, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Create and maintain technical designs and service specifications while providing guidance to developers on functional and technical documentation.

What You Need To Have To Be Considered

• 6+ years of software development experience, with advanced proficiency in Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Data JPA.
• Hands‑on experience developing and supporting scalable backend applications in a cloud environment.
• Strong experience with Apache Kafka or another enterprise messaging or queueing technology.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and modern application deployment practices.
• Experience working in an Agile Scrum environment and collaborating with technical and business stakeholders.

• Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Experience designing large‑scale, high-volume, or distributed applications.
• Knowledge of cloud‑based analytics solutions and architectures.

Salary And Other Compensation

The annual salary for this position is between $68,000 – $110,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
