Job summary

EVONA is expanding its US operations in Denver and seeks a Senior IT Systems Administrator to own the IT landscape for the new US team. You’ll manage a hybrid environment spanning laptops, servers, networks and cloud services, ensuring secure, compliant operations across GCC High, Azure Gov and GovCloud.

You’ll lead onboarding, access control, security monitoring and incident response, with a hands-on approach and direct collaboration with leadership.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, IT operations or cybersecurity.
• Strong experience in Windows-based enterprise environments and Microsoft 365.

Responsibilities

• Own IT systems for the US operation, ensuring connectivity and reliability across on-prem and cloud.

The opportunity

Imagine arriving at work knowing the systems you're responsible for aren't supporting another ordinary corporate office. They're supporting a team building spacecraft. EVONA is partnering with a fast-growing international space technology company that is expanding its US operations in Denver and building the infrastructure, engineering capability and teams required to support its next phase of growth. At the centre of that expansion sits IT. As Senior IT Systems Administrator, you'll become the primary IT resource for the US operation - responsible for keeping its people connected, its infrastructure reliable, its cloud environments secure and its systems compliant with the demanding requirements of the US government and defence ecosystem. This isn't a role where you'll spend your day forwarding tickets to somebody else. You'll own things.

What will you actually be responsible for?

Your environment will span everything from the laptop sitting on an engineer's desk to government-regulated cloud infrastructure. You'll support employees when technology gets in their way, troubleshoot hardware and software issues and manage the workstations, servers, networks and devices that keep the Denver operation running. But that's only the beginning. You'll administer Microsoft GCC High across Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Intune and Entra ID, alongside Azure Government infrastructure and AWS GovCloud environments. Identity and access will sit firmly within your world. You'll manage onboarding and offboarding, user provisioning, MFA, role-based access, privileged accounts and permissions across both local and cloud environments. You'll also have significant responsibility for cybersecurity. That means monitoring endpoints and infrastructure, investigating suspicious activity, responding to security incidents, managing vulnerabilities, maintaining patching and system-hardening programmes and continuously improving the controls protecting the organisation. When something doesn't look right, you'll investigate it. When something could be more secure, you'll improve it. And when the organisation grows, you'll help make sure the technology and security architecture can grow with it.

Security isn't an afterthought here

The company operates within an environment where government and defence customers expect considerably more than a password policy and antivirus software. You'll help maintain and strengthen compliance with frameworks and requirements such as: CMMC | NIST 800-171 | FedRAMP | ITAR | DFARS. You'll maintain security documentation, inventories, audit evidence, access reviews, logs and control records and help ensure the organisation is ready when customers or auditors need evidence that controls are actually being followed. You'll also evaluate encryption technologies and protocols including AES, RSA, ECC and TLS/SSL, considering how they're applied to data at rest and in transit. That includes disk encryption, certificate handling and key management in environments aligned with FIPS 140-2/140-3 requirements. You'll support backups, restoration testing, disaster recovery and business continuity exercises too. Because in this environment, resilience matters just as much as security.

You'll also manage and troubleshoot the physical infrastructure behind the operation - switches, routers, storage, wireless networks, firewalls, internet connectivity and office IT equipment.

So if you're someone who enjoys being genuinely hands-on rather than specialising in one tiny corner of an enterprise IT department, you'll have plenty to get involved with.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for someone with at least five years of experience across systems administration, infrastructure engineering, IT operations, cybersecurity or a closely related field. You'll ideally have a degree in IT, Computer Science or Cybersecurity, although equivalent practical experience is equally interesting. You'll need strong experience within Windows-based enterprise environments and Microsoft 365. Experience with Microsoft GCC High, Azure Government and AWS GovCloud would be particularly valuable because these environments will form an important part of your responsibility.

You Should Also Be Comfortable With

Active Directory and Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP; TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, VPNs and firewalls; endpoint security and EDR; device management and encryption; vulnerability remediation; system monitoring and logging; incident investigation and response. Experience supporting organisations working within CMMC, NIST 800-171, FedRAMP, ITAR, DFARS or similar regulated environments would be highly advantageous. But technical knowledge alone isn't enough. You'll be the person people turn to when something isn't working. So we're looking for someone who can troubleshoot calmly, communicate clearly, document properly and explain technical problems to people who don't necessarily speak IT.

What’s on offer?

Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 USD. The final salary will depend on experience and technical background.
