Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to lead RMF activities across multiple systems, including emerging AI/ML platforms. You will mentor junior ISSO staff and ensure compliance with NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5, CNSSI 1253, and DoD directives.

The role is based in Washington, DC with eligibility for 100% remote work. Requires DoD 8570/8140 IAM Level II/III, Public Trust clearance, and extensive RMF artifact experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of information system security experience (or commensurate experience).
• 8–10+ years in an ISSO or cybersecurity compliance role, with direct responsibility as ISSO of record on assigned systems.
• Demonstrated experience conducting RMF assessments across multiple network environments.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent A&A assessments simultaneously.
• Experience developing and maintaining complete RMF artifact packages: SSPs, SARs, POA&Ms, RAR, and supporting BOE documentation.
• Experience with microservices-based or distributed system architectures and component-level security assessments.
• Proficiency with GRC platforms for A&A documentation and continuous monitoring (JCAM/CSAM, Xacta, or equivalent).
• Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification.
• DoD 8570.01-M / DoD 8140 compliant — IAM Level II or III (CISSP, CISM, CASP+, or equivalent).
• Clearance Required: Ability to maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support RMF lifecycle phases from categorization to continuous monitoring across systems.
• Maintain RMF artifacts: SSPs, SARs, SAPs, POA&Ms, contingency/ISPs, and BOE documentation.
• Conduct multiple concurrent RMF assessments and manage documentation in JCAM.
• Assess emerging tech systems (AI/ML) and adapt baselines as needed.
• Manage evidence collection and BOE packages for audits and reviews.
• Determine FIPS 199 impact levels and perform PIAs/PTAs.
• Review vulnerability results and manage POA&M remediation through closure.
• Provide security dashboards and metrics to system owners and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with FISMA, NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5, CNSSI 1253 and policies.
• Manage workflow with JIRA; maintain status visibility across pipelines.
• Mentor junior ISSO staff and develop SOPs to improve efficiency.
• Collaborate with teams to communicate security requirements.
