Role Overview
The Senior IP Network Engineer will provide technical guidance and leadership across all levels of the organization in matters related to IP Networking. This includes expertise in routing and switching, VPNs, data centers, Hybrid Cloud networking, and Security solutions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the IP Network Architect to understand requirements, policies, and processes, ensuring the standardization of routing policies and engineering thresholds.
- Lab‑test network changes and obtain an approved Maintenance Operations Procedure (MOP) before production implementation.
- Work closely with teams responsible for certifying and implementing all Layer 2 (L2), Layer 3 (L3), and Security network initiatives.
- Oversee and perform L2/L3/Security network testing, implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and scalability to ensure optimal network performance and security.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Manage the core IP network platform across IntelePeer collocated data centers, clouds, and corporate offices running Cisco IOS, NX‑OS, and IOS‑XR.
- Lab test, implement, troubleshoot, and manage networking technologies, including BGP, OSPF, HSRP, DSCP/QoS best practices, NDFC, and packet capture.
- Configure and secure L2L VPNs, Remote Access VPNs (SSL and IPSec), and Firewalls (Cisco ASA/Firepower and Fortinet FortiGates) on Cisco routers and switches (ASR9Ks, Nexus 9Ks).
- Monitor IP networks using tools like SolarWinds NPM, Observium, OXIDIZED, Prometheus, Grafana, DEV42, or similar.
- Allocate and manage IPv4 (RFC6598, RFC1918, and Public) and IPv6 addresses for internal networks, clouds, and external customer VoIP networks.
- Lab Test and execute detailed Maintenance Operations Procedures for network platform changes, including remote guidance for technicians and documentation for the NOC.
- Participate in Change Management meetings and conduct daily audits of change management outputs.
- Collaborate with other engineering and product teams to derive network requirements and ensure optimal IP network connectivity.
- Develop strategies and execute network development and proof‑of‑concept (POC) projects.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of IP network hardware and ensure that support contracts are current.
- Write and utilize UNIX/Linux shell scripts for network‑related tasks.
- Show outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, effectively engaging with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Exhibit polished oral and written communication skills to explain complex technical content clearly.
- Demonstrate high motivation, a strong sense of personal accountability, and remain calm and effective under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Quickly learn modern technologies and work independently in remote environments.
