Job summary

Scale AI is seeking a product counsel with deep IP expertise to guide product development, launch and operations. You will work closely with Research, Product, Engineering, Operations, Communications and Marketing to embed IP protection and regulatory compliance into the end-to-end process.

The role requires strong experience in patents, trademarks, open-source governance, and ML/AI tech. You’ll also help draft agreements and deliver training to enhance Scale's compliance culture.

Qualifications

• JD and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred).
• 5+ years of IP law experience at top-tier firm or in-house tech company; product counseling a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic IP advice across product lifecycle, including regulatory matters.
• Collaborate with Research, Product, Engineering, Operations, Communications and Marketing to mitigate IP risks.
• Manage Scale's IP portfolio: patents and trademarks, prosecution and registration.
• Advise on third-party, synthetic and open-source data models and licensing.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements involving IP.
• Engage with technical teams on ML, robotics and other tech areas.
• Develop and deliver IP and data licensing training.
