Job summary

MZLA Technologies Corporation, the nonprofit-owned company behind Thunderbird, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the iOS app. You will design, develop, and evolve Thunderbird’s iOS experience, collaborating with mobile engineers, product, and UX teams to deliver high-quality, accessible, secure, and scalable mobile software.

We value open-source collaboration, strong debugging and testing practices, and the ability to work independently within a distributed team.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, incl. 2+ years in a Senior role.
• 3+ years of professional mobile app development experience.
• Strong experience with Swift, SwiftUI, and iOS frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of iOS architecture and performance optimization.
• Experience with security, encryption, and secure storage.
• Experience with email protocols and compliance guidelines (RSS, IMAP, POP, CalDav/CardDav).

Responsibilities

• Build and refine Thunderbird’s mobile products and platform architecture.
• Improve scalability, performance, reliability, and user experience.
• Develop understanding of the codebase to make changes across the stack.
• Maintain debugging and testing practices (unit, integration, automated).
• Review code and guide architectural and testing improvements.
• Independently resolve complex issues involving performance and security.
• Monitor application health and address issues proactively.
• Document technical decisions and team processes.
• Own assigned projects from planning through delivery.
• Ensure mobile development meets accessibility, security, and privacy standards.
