Job summary

O'Neal Steel is seeking an Inventory and Cost Accountant Sr. at our Corporate office in Birmingham, AL. The role focuses on reconciling inventory-related balance sheet accounts to the general ledger and analyzing item cost variances to ensure valuation accuracy.

You will partner with other departments, support FP&A with variance analysis, assist with month-end close, and handle special projects as assigned. Strong Excel and JD Edwards skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 4-year bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and identify root causes of variances.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile inventory accounts (cardex to on-hand, WIP, in-transit) to the general ledger monthly.
• Analyze manufacturing cost variances and investigate non-routine items impacting item cost.
• Identify root causes of items with incorrect cost and implement improvements.
• Provide inventory-related reporting for monthly financial statements and assist with month-end close.
