Job summary

Aptive seeks a Senior Interoperability Architect to advance interoperability specifications across VA exchange use cases, including HL7 V2, C-CDA, and FHIR adoption. You will work within SAFe Agile Release Trains with interoperability specialists, terminologists, and VA Business Owners.

The role emphasizes conformance testing, discovery projects, and policy alignment with ONC and USCDI, while guiding architecture runway collaborations and cross-team reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10+ years of standards development, adoption, and conformance experience.
• Experience developing/interpreting interoperability specifications, profiles, or implementation guides.
• Familiarity with HL7 V2, C-CDA, and FHIR.
• Familiarity with ONC S&I Framework and federal interoperability policies.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a VA background investigation and US work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain interoperability specifications, data models, profiles, and implementation guides for VA exchange use cases.
• Analyze industry standards and VA requirements to inform specification approaches.
• Design solutions using HL7 V2, C-CDA, and FHIR, including profiles and API specifications.
• Define specs for Community Care, DoD, and partner exchanges aligned to national frameworks.
• Develop standards-based interfaces for devices and systems supporting the Federal EHR.
• Lead discovery and prototyping for new standards needs (e.g., consent management, time zone interoperability).
• Define conformance criteria and testing approaches; track adoption across VA systems.
• Align specifications with ONC S&I Framework, USCDI, and related federal policy.
• Contribute architecture inputs to OCI Architecture Runway and cross-team reviews.
• Participate in PI Planning, backlog refinement, iteration ceremonies, and system demos.
• Provide technical guidance and briefings to analysts and informaticists, presenting recommendations to OCI leadership.
