Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) seeks an Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacist Specialist to provide advanced pharmacotherapy management for adult patients. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to optimize therapy, improve outcomes, and ensure safe, evidence‑based medication use.

The role includes precepting residents and students, developing medication‑use policies, and contributing to antimicrobial and opioid stewardship programs.

Qualifications

• PharmD required from an ACPE‑accredited program
• Three years of inpatient or health-system direct patient care experience
• PGY2 in Internal Medicine or related specialty preferred
• Texas Pharmacy License required
• Board certification through BCPS or related board such as BCGP/ BCCP/ BCCCP required
• Compounded Sterile Products certification within 3 months of hire
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced, patient‑centered pharmacotherapy management for adult internal medicine populations.
• Collaborate as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to optimize medication therapy.
• Support safe, evidence‑based use of medications and improve clinical outcomes.
• Precept pharmacy residents and students, providing evaluation and mentorship.
• Develop and maintain medication‑use policies and protocols; participate in antimicrobial stewardship, opioid stewardship, and anticoagulation programs.
• Conduct quality improvement activities, medication‑use evaluations, and data collection with documentation in the EMR.
• Serve as a drug information resource and liaison among pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff.
• Engage in clinical research activities and contribute to study protocols as required.
