Job summary

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. in Evanston, IL, is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to support internal comms across UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement. You will develop strategies that connect, inform, and engage employees, including content for intranet, newsletters, and town halls.

You’ll partner with leadership to craft messages that align with priorities, translate technical info for broad audiences, and monitor impact to drive improved engagement and culture.

Qualifications

• University degree in communication, public relations, education, marketing or related field.
• Minimum six years of related professional experience in communications and marketing.
• Experience in a nonprofit, scientific or research organization is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute internal communication strategies, campaigns, and initiatives across ULRI and ULSE.
• Create and manage content for intranet, newsletters, announcements, town halls, and collaboration platforms.
• Partner with leadership to craft messaging aligned with priorities and culture.
• Translate complex information into clear communications for employee audiences.
• Support change management with communication plans to drive adoption.
• Monitor effectiveness, gather feedback, and propose improvements.
• Ensure communications reflect tone, values, and brand standards.
• Collaborate with HR and leadership to strengthen engagement and recognition.
• Support additional departmental initiatives as required.
