Job summary

Little Giant Studio in Victoria seeks a Senior Interior Designer with hospitality and multi-family experience to lead complex projects across offices. You will mentor junior staff, coordinate consultants, and drive design excellence with rigorous documentation.

Responsibilities include setting project schedules, leading design teams, coordinating with clients and external partners, and ensuring code compliance. A strong portfolio and post-graduate experience are essential; NCIDQ asset.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of post-graduate experience in Interior Design/Architecture offices (commercial, retail, multi-unit residential).
  • NCIDQ certification considered an asset.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree from a CIDA accredited Interior Design program.
  • Ongoing participation in learning sessions (trade shows, design classes).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate consultants for complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Lead design teams and mentor junior staff across offices.
  • Develop and manage project schedules and documentation.
  • Lead construction documents and contract administration phases.
  • Maintain client contacts and ensure project goals, fee and schedule are met.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Codes applicable to projects in jurisdiction.

Little Giant is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join our Victoria studio. Our ideal candidate has experience in hospitality design (restaurants & hotels) and single-family residential with a proven track record (multi-family experience is considered an asset). As a Senior Designer, you will be required to manage and coordinate consultants for complex projects with minimal supervision. We are looking for you to work collaboratively across offices while mentoring and supporting junior staff. Our work is a cultural act. Success in this role is measured by your exceptional level of service for our clients, written and verbal communication, ability to work in a team setting, demonstration of rigor in your work and your ability to adapt as changes occur.

STUDIO

  • Foster an environment of mutual respect and passion for design among team members.
  • Facilitates collaboration; engages ideas and input of others.
  • Oversees the quality and technical assignments (including drawings standards and building code review and application)
  • Ambassador and teacher of Little Giant’s processes, values, and goals
  • Active and ongoing mentoring of studio team
  • Assists with developing continuing education opportunities (site visits, lectures, etc.) to educate and inspire design team.
  • Initiate and support office design reviews and critiques.
  • Support and lead implementation of innovative technologies, processes and practices and employee development solutions that position the company as a leader in the field.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in at least one of Little Giant’s sectors of practice, by keeping current with emerging trends and market shifts in order to recommend and implement best practices.
  • Able to build long term, ongoing relationships with clients that lead to repeat business.

PROJECT

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-up, Enscape and AutoCAD. Revit is considered an asset.
  • Has strong design sensibilities and acumen and adept at creating and developing conceptual ideas.
  • Displays a high level of creativity and innovation with a strong understanding of practical requirements of the building industry.
  • Adept at leading large-scale, complex and specialized projects.
  • Sets the project schedule and maintains the schedule throughout the project.
  • Establishes and maintains the primary client contact for the duration of the project.
  • Leads project team members in order to achieve project objectives and schedule.
  • Leads external coordination meetings and assigns tasks to external project team members to achieve project objectives and schedule.
  • Leads and takes part in the completion of construction documents for the project. Oversees the quality and technical assignments (including drawings standards and building code review and application).
  • Leads contract administration and coordination with internal and external project team.
  • Is fully conversant and teaches Little Giant’s processes throughout the project.
  • Strong understanding of project fee and scope of work and tracks costs effectively.
  • Is capable of leading a variety of projects simultaneously.
  • Meeting monthly billing targets for yourself and your project teams.
  • Strong understanding of the Building Codes applicable to projects in their respective jurisdictions.
  • Strong material and product sourcing skills.

Experience
  • 8+ years of post-graduate experience in an Interior Design/Architecture office in commercial, retail and multi-unit residential projects with, at minimum, a developed understanding of one of these sectors.
  • NCIDQ certification considered an asset.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree from a CIDA accredited Interior Design program.
  • Ongoing participation in learning sessions (trade shows, speakers, design related classes).
