Job summary

Openkrill is seeking a senior backend engineer to join a small integrations team building data-heavy services for a cold-chain logistics platform. You will design reliable systems that ingest data from IoT devices, carriers, and partners to help protect sensitive goods.

You'll own end-to-end data flows, implement event-driven architectures with Kafka or RabbitMQ, and advance testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability in production services while working independently within a compact team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in scalable, data-heavy distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript or Node.js, and SQL/data modeling.
• Experience with external partner integrations and production ownership of data flows.
• Hands-on with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services that ingest and contextualize data from IoT devices, carriers, and external partners.
• Own partner data flows end to end, from ingestion and normalization through warehousing, monitoring, and on-call support.
• Build event-driven systems using APIs, webhooks, queues, and messaging platforms.
• Develop systems that support shipment risk assessment, on-time and in-full prediction, and automated exception workflows.
• Improve service reliability and maintainability through testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability.
• Work independently while collaborating with a small team to ship practical improvements quickly.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join a small integrations team building backend services for a cold-chain logistics platform. In this senior individual contributor role, you will develop reliable, data-heavy systems that help logistics teams understand shipment conditions, assess risk, and respond to issues in time to protect sensitive goods.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design and build backend services that ingest and contextualize data from IoT devices, carriers, and other external partners.
• Own partner data flows end to end, from ingestion and normalization through warehousing, monitoring, and on-call support.
• Build event-driven systems and integrations using APIs, webhooks, queues, and messaging platforms.
• Develop systems that support shipment risk assessment, on-time and in-full prediction, and automated exception workflows.
• Improve service reliability and maintainability through testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability.
• Work independently while collaborating with a small team to ship practical improvements quickly.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• At least 5 years of backend engineering experience, including hands-on work designing and building scalable, data-heavy distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript or Node.js, along with relational databases, SQL, and data modeling.
• Experience with external partner integrations and production ownership of operational data flows.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, plus REST or gRPC API development.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Knowledge of testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability in production services.
• Logistics, supply chain, cold-chain, IoT data, ETL, NoSQL, or regulated industry experience is valuable.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base salary is $130,000 to $160,000 annually, plus equity and a cash bonus. Visa sponsorship is available.
