Opmed is looking for a Senior Integration Engineer to own the end-to-end technical integration between Opmed's platform and our clients' healthcare systems. You'll be the go-to person for all data connectivity- designing, building, and maintaining interfaces with EHR systems, clinical data feeds, and third-party platforms. This is a foundational hire: you'll define how Opmed connects to the healthcare ecosystem and set the standards for how we do integrations as we scale.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain integrations with client EHR systems (Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, Meditech, athenahealth, and others) using HL7 v2, FHIR, and file-based data exchange
- Own the full integration lifecycle - from requirements gathering and interface specification through development, testing, deployment, and production support
- Define and document Opmed's integration architecture, standards, and best practices
- Troubleshoot and resolve data exchange issues across client environments, ensuring data quality and compliance
- Collaborate with the Implementation Manager to align integration timelines with overall project milestones
- Work directly with client IT teams and EHR analysts to understand their technical environments and configure connectivity
- Build and maintain integration monitoring, error handling, and alerting to ensure reliability
- Evaluate and manage integration tools and middleware (e.g., integration engines, API gateways)
- Stay current on healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, IHE profiles, CDA/CCD) and bring new capabilities to Opmed
- Contribute to scoping and estimation for new client implementations from an integration perspective
Must-Have Skills
- 7+ years of experience in healthcare IT integration
- Deep hands-on expertise with HL7 v2 message types (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, MDM) and FHIR resources/APIs
- Direct experience integrating with at least two major EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, athenahealth)
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or similar languages for data transformation and interface development
- Experience with integration engines (e.g., InterSystems IRIS/HealthShare, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, MuleSoft)
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and healthcare data formats
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize across multiple client implementations, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice-to-Have
- HL7 FHIR certification
- Experience with DICOM, X12 EDI, or other healthcare data standards
- Background working at a healthtech vendor (not just a health system)
- Experience building integration teams or mentoring junior engineers
