Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Senior Insurance Underwriting Manager to lead underwriting operations in Randburg, Gauteng. This strategic role focuses on guiding underwriting policy, risk assessment, and profitable growth of the portfolio.

You will manage a team of experienced underwriters, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with claims, actuarial, and sales to drive performance in a hybrid office/remote setting.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in insurance underwriting, with ≥5 years in a management or supervisory role.
• Experience with commercial and personal lines underwriting.
• Strong leadership and people development skills.
• Deep knowledge of risk assessment and pricing strategies.
• Regulatory understanding in the SA environment.
• Proficient with underwriting software and analytics tools.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the underwriting department.
• Develop, implement, and enforce underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters to ensure high performance.
• Analyze complex risks and make critical decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.
• Monitor underwriting performance against key metrics and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and sales to achieve business objectives.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Contribute to strategic planning and business development initiatives.
• Manage relationships with brokers and agents, providing underwriting support.
