Job summary

Epping Forest District Council is seeking a seasoned Insurance & Risk Manager to oversee its insurance and corporate risk operations. This senior role will manage the Council's insurance programme, claims processes, procurement activities, and the Corporate Risk Register, with on-site presence three days per week.

The successful candidate will provide expert advice, ensure robust risk management practices, and drive improvements across governance and corporate services for the authority.

Qualifications

• Extensive senior-level insurance experience in a complex organisation.
• Proven experience leading insurance tenders, renewals, and procurement.
• Strong knowledge of insurance programmes, claims management, and governance.
• Experience maintaining corporate risk registers.
• Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and influencing skills.
• Experience presenting recommendations to senior management.
• Demonstrated success driving service improvements and organisational change.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Council's insurance programme and annual renewals.
• Lead insurance tenders and procurement processes.
• Manage insurance policies, claims procedures, and records.
• Collaborate with insurers, brokers, legal advisors and stakeholders.
• Provide expert insurance guidance to Members and senior officers.
• Maintain the Corporate Risk Register.
• Identify, evaluate and mitigate risks with managers.
• Prepare reports for senior leadership and governance bodies.
• Promote best practice risk management across departments.
