Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Insurance is seeking a prosecutor to join the Insurance Fraud Division to prosecute insurance fraud cases on behalf of the State. Under supervision, you will vet complaints, decide on charges and plea offers, and present evidence in court.

Responsibilities include legal research, drafting memoranda and court documents, and coordinating with investigators. Travel and after-hours availability are required, with preference for insurance or criminal law background.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Member in good standing of the South Carolina Bar.
• Must pass required background checks and screenings (drug, credit, tax, grievance, and SLED).
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Responsibilities

• Vet fraud complaints and determine charges and plea offers.
• Prosecute insurance fraud cases including high-profile matters.
• Conduct legal research and prepare court documents (motions, indictments, warrants).
• Oversee investigators and gather evidence.
• Travel as required and be on call after hours.
