Hiscox is seeking a Senior Insurance Accountant based in Atlanta to join our Financial Reporting team. The role focuses on insurance and general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and integration of newly acquired entities.

You'll handle journal entries, month-end closes, statutory statements, and audits, with exposure to IFRS/GAAP, investments, and intercompany activity. Hybrid work allows two days in the office.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Accounting/Finance; CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
• 3–5 years in accounting or financial reporting.
• Strong IFRS/GAAP knowledge.
• Advanced Excel and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries for premium, claims, reinsurance, investments, intercompany transactions.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes and financial reporting.
• Reinsurance accounting: review cession statements, settlement calculations, reconciliations with reinsurers.
• Record investment activity and reconcile investment accounts.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
• Assist with Annual and Quarterly Statutory Statements and related schedules.
• Support audits and respond to PBC requests.
• Record IBNR and other actuarial reserve entries.
• Process accounts payable and prepare expense accruals.
• Contribute to ad-hoc process improvements and acquisition/integration projects.

Job Summary

Senior Insurance Accountant reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager. Based in Atlanta, this permanent role focuses on insurance and general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and special projects for newly acquired legal entities.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation and posting of journal entries related to premium, claims, reinsurance, investments, expense accruals, and intercompany transactions.
• Support month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Reinsurance accounting: review of cession statements, settlement calculations, reconciliations, and coordination with reinsurers.
• Investment accounting: record investment activity, reconcile investment accounts, support related reporting and disclosures.
• Preparation and review of balance sheet account reconciliations and investigation of reconciling items.
• Assist with the preparation of Annual and Quarterly Statutory Statements and related schedules and footnotes.
• Support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responses to PBC requests.
• Record and reconcile IBNR and other actuarial reserve‑related entries.
• Process accounts payable payments and prepare expense accruals to ensure accurate period reporting.
• Support adhoc projects including process improvements, system enhancements, acquisitions, and integration initiatives.

Requirements

• Strong accounting knowledge of IFRS/GAAP; insurance industry experience highly desired.
• Strong analytical, quantitative and communication skills.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Detail oriented and organized.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline‑driven environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Oracle.

Education & Experience

• BS Degree in Accounting/Finance; CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
• 3–5 years in accounting, financial reporting or equivalent business experience.
