Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer - Position and Responsibilities
As a Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer with Middough, you will be part of a project team from inception to completion. Your responsibilities include data collection, detailed engineering calculations, and interaction with design staff, senior department members, project management, contractors, and clients. The role also encourages professional growth through active membership in professional organizations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
- Design complete I&C solutions based on project scope definition.
- Prepare project documentation including bills of material, calculations, data sheets, detailed drawings, specifications, technical reports, and test plans.
- Coordinate tasks with engineers, designers, and administrative staff.
- Perform technical evaluation of bids and recommend best value designs meeting client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability, and safety.
- Participate in safety reviews (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP).
- Lead field work by evaluating installations and performing problem-solving activities.
- Review calculations and vendor drawings.
- Serve as lead for single-discipline projects, estimating work hours, developing scope, staffing, and checking drawings.
- Coordinate with other engineering teams and suppliers for pertinent information.
- Manage project scope, address changes, adjust deliverables, and complete work within budget and schedule.
- Present project information to internal and external audiences.
- Work within budget and schedule, and develop internal time estimates for engineering and design.
Education, Experience, and Skills
The successful candidate will possess:
- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of engineering analysis and design experience, including leading projects across various industries.
- Professional Engineer license (preferred).
- Understanding of NEC/ISA standards.
- Proficiency with PFDs, P&ID’s, and Cause & Effect Matrices.
- Experience with DCS/PLC platforms, HMI, and reporting software.
- Strong background in control system architecture and interface solutions.
- Experience with field instrumentation and process analyzers, including installation details and loop drawings.
- Cost estimation skills for engineering projects.
- Ability to serve as a project engineer when needed.
- Knowledge of Smart Plant Instrumentation, Databases, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and organize efficiently.
Physical Requirements
While performing essential functions, the candidate will:
- Remain stationary for periods, often standing or sitting.
- Walk, reach, climb stairs, balance, and perform repetitive motions.
- Use vision for close and distance focus.
- May be exposed to environmental conditions at client sites, including noise, heat, cold, and air quality issues.
- Occasionally travel for work purposes.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
