Job summary

Senior Instrument & Controls Technician in Rochester, NY onsite is responsible for maintaining critical industrial utility plant operations. You will troubleshoot, install, calibrate, and support PLC/DCS hardware and software across legacy and modern control systems, ensuring reliability and safety in a high-visibility environment.

The role offers a hands-on, collaborative setting with operations, maintenance, engineering, and external vendors.

Qualifications

• 10 years of industrial controls, instrumentation, or utility plant experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience supporting PLCs and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and circuit diagrams.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Experience working in industrial, utility, manufacturing, or power generation environments.
• Familiarity with boilers, turbines, chillers, cooling towers, generators, and utility systems.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily work activities of the Instrumentation & Controls team.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial instrumentation and plant control systems.
• Support PLC and Distributed Control System (DCS) hardware, software, and programming.
• Calibrate and maintain instrumentation used to monitor pressure, flow, temperature, and analytical systems.
• Troubleshoot pneumatic and electronic control devices, valves, dampers, and final control elements.
• Modify and improve plant operating graphics and control configurations.
• Coordinate contractors and field service providers supporting control system projects.
• Support plant system reliability, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain proper system access controls and physical security of critical equipment.
