Job summary

City of Dallas is seeking an Inspector III to perform very specialized inspections, investigations, and enforcement across multiple departments. This role works independently, handles complex construction projects, and may be the City’s final technical authority on inspected issues.

Responsibilities include inspecting site work, ensuring permits and documentation, and providing information to customers on codes and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Four (4) years of inspection experience on streets, drainage, water/sewer, or bridge projects.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• ICC Building Inspector Certification within 1 year of hire/promotion.
• Equivalencies: associate degree (or higher) + 3 years experience meet requirements.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and enforce city codes for construction, drainage, environmental, housing, and related areas.
• Lead complex inspections and communicate findings to project managers and customers.
• Prepare notices of violation and conduct follow-up inspections.
• Interpret zoning regulations in Conservation and Historic Districts and Planned Developments.
• Provide testimony during hearings and trials as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of new materials, codes, and enforcement methods.
• Coordinate with builders, developers, contractors, and city staff.
