Job summary

The Ohio State University is seeking an Inpatient Medical Coder 3 for its Health System Shared Services, MIM CDI and Coding. This remote position focuses on retrospective coding of inpatient records, applying ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, and ensuring accurate DRG assignments within federal guidelines.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of two years inpatient coding experience, HH diploma or RHIT/RHIA/CCS credentials, with 4–6 years preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Credentialed as RHIT, RHIA, or CCS through AHIMA.
• A minimum of two (2) years of inpatient hospital coding experience including ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG assignment.
• Four (4) to six (6) years of inpatient coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Retrospective coding of inpatient medical records at discharge to ensure complete, accurate code assignment.
• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes and perform DRG/APR-DRG assignment.
• Abstract required data elements (admission source/type, discharge disposition, attending/procedural physicians).
• Resolve coding edits using CAC and encoder tools; ensure regulatory compliance and quality.
• Collaborate with CDI specialists, physician advisors, and revenue cycle partners to clarify documentation and reduce denials.
