Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder/Acute Edits and Denials Claims Analyst to work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. The role focuses on correcting MS-DRG/APR DRG assignments, MUE edits, and medical necessity edits, with denials and 3-day rule work.

You will query physicians for documentation under the Coding Operations Manager. Ideal candidates have AHIMA/AAPC credentials and 2+ years of inpatient coding experience.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Coding experience
• 2+ years of Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience (hospital, facility, etc.)
• Associate's degree required; credentials must be maintained annually

Responsibilities

• Work acute inpatient hospital claim edits, denials, 3-day rule combines and other secondary work queues.
• Recodes medical records to satisfy the claims, edits, and denials using coding classifications.
• Analyzes medical records to ensure accurate coding and provide provider feedback to improve documentation and coding quality.
• Collects and abstracts data elements.
• Assist customers with complex issues related to unbilled and incomplete records.
• Identify and suggest areas for improvement in high-risk coding areas.
• Collaborate on charging and documentation requirements and participate in special payer/compliance projects.
• Other duties as assigned.
