Infrastructure Project Manager (Director / VP) | New York, NY | Hybrid (4 days in office)
The Role
This role sits inside the technology organization of a leading global investment banking advisory firm, a lean, high-standards environment where the technology team manages a broad and active portfolio: AI and automation, infrastructure, cybersecurity, software upgrades, and large-scale enterprise transformation programs. The team is growing, and they need a senior project manager who can lead complex, multi-workstream initiatives from initiation through delivery, without needing the path paved for them.
This is not a coordination or reporting role. The person in this seat is expected to understand technical conversations well enough to ask the right questions, spot gaps, challenge assumptions, and keep things moving. They will engage directly with engineering leads, security teams, and C-suite stakeholders, sometimes all in the same week.
Capital markets or financial services experience is preferred, but the firm is open to candidates from other complex, high-accountability industries, healthcare, insurance, enterprise technology, provided they can demonstrate the right level of pace, executive interaction, and technical depth.
What This Role Is, and Is Not
This role is:
- A senior delivery and execution role on large, often ambiguous technology programs
- A seat at the table with C-suite and senior technology leadership, not a layer removed from it
- Accountable for scope, timelines, risk, dependencies, escalation, and stakeholder alignment across multiple concurrent workstreams
- Expected to own gaps that fall between team boundaries, not redirect them
- A role that rewards initiative, directness, and the ability to operate without a fully defined playbook
This role is NOT:
- A traditional PMO or status-tracking function
- A role for someone who waits for problems to surface before acting
- Appropriate for someone who needs every step, process, or decision handed to them
- An engineering or architecture role (technical fluency is required, technical ownership of solutions is not)
- Remote-friendly in any regular sense
Required Experience & Traits
- Significant experience leading complex, cross-functional technology programs through the full SDLC, primarily waterfall, with working knowledge of Agile
- Comfortable managing a portfolio of concurrent initiatives across domains including infrastructure, cybersecurity, AI, and software implementation
- Technically fluent enough to follow engineering and architecture conversations, ask intelligent questions, capture requirements accurately, and translate them cleanly for business and executive audiences
- Demonstrated experience managing executive-level stakeholders and presenting to C-suite leadership, not just preparing the slides
- Strong problem-solving instincts: able to recognize what is missing, determine the next step independently, and take ownership when a project goes sideways
- A track record of challenging assumptions and pushing teams toward decisions diplomatically, not just flagging risks
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity, adapting quickly when direction changes, and staying oriented around the business objective, not just the project plan
- A degree is not required if the experience and execution record are strong
Key Responsibilities
Program & Project Delivery
- Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, multi-workstream technology programs from initiation through close, managing scope, timelines, dependencies, risks, and issues throughout
- Maintain clear visibility into how each initiative connects to its business objective, and hold that perspective through delays, pivots, and scope changes
- Drive accountability and timeliness across technical and business teams, even when formal authority is limited
Stakeholder & Executive Engagement
- Manage project sponsors and senior stakeholders proactively, escalating issues with clear recommendations rather than just status updates
- Present project status and key decisions to C-suite and senior technology leadership with confidence and concision
- Translate technical content for non-technical audiences and business context for technical teams, fluently in both directions
Technical Collaboration
- Partner closely with engineering, infrastructure, security, and operations teams throughout project execution
- Facilitate working sessions and brainstorming with technical teams, asking the right questions to surface gaps and drive toward decisions
- Engage effectively across AI, automation, and emerging-technology initiatives without needing to be a domain expert in any of them
- Identify and track risks, issues, and dependencies across concurrent workstreams, escalating appropriately and early
- Take ownership of gaps that fall between team or functional boundaries rather than leaving them unresolved
- Manage through obstacles, changes in direction, and ambiguity without losing execution momentum
Organizational Alignment
- Establish and maintain project governance, communication cadences, and reporting structures that keep teams aligned and leadership informed
- Build strong working relationships with both technical and business stakeholders across the organization
- Challenge the status quo when needed, push teams toward decisions, and drive organizational alignment without waiting for consensus to happen on its own
Compensation
- Base salary: $170,000 to $210,000, depending on level and experience
- Discretionary bonus in addition to base
- Target OTE - $240,000 to $275,000
