Job summary

Solid Power is seeking a Senior Controls/Automation Engineer II to design, commission, startup, and optimize advanced manufacturing systems for next-gen sulfide solid-state electrolytes. The role requires in-depth experience with Allen-Bradley platforms, field work, and independent issue resolution across startups and ramp.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant industrial controls, automation, equipment engineering, or manufacturing engineering experience.
• Advanced proficiency with Allen Bradley PLC platforms and Rockwell Automation software, including Studio 5000 Logix Designer.
• Experience developing, troubleshooting, and commissioning PLC logic for industrial manufacturing equipment.
• Experience with HMI and SCADA development, including operator interface design and data visualization.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical control systems for advanced manufacturing equipment.
• Develop new PLC programs and modify existing logic for process equipment, material handling systems, utilities, and production systems.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and ramp activities, including validation of controls functionality and safety interlocks.
• Review and approve controls-related design deliverables, including electrical schematics and network architecture.
• Develop and maintain HMI and SCADA applications for operator control, alarms, and data access.
• Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, SCADA, instrumentation, and networking issues to minimize downtime and improve performance.
• Collaborate with process engineering, operations, maintenance, IT/OT, and vendors to deliver robust automation solutions.
• Support integration between equipment controls, plant networks, data systems, historians, and manufacturing platforms.
• Specify and evaluate control hardware including PLCs, I/O, networks, sensors, and safety devices.
• Establish and maintain standards for PLC code, alarms, backups, and revision control.
• Own control-related documentation and commissioning records.
• Provide hands-on support during downtime, startup issues, and urgent events.
• Mentor engineers, technicians, and electrical staff to build internal controls capability.
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, safety, throughput, and usability through controls improvements.
• Ensure controls comply with electrical, safety, and hazardous-location standards.
