Verano Holdings Corp. in Illinois seeks a Senior Indirect Tax Manager to lead the multi-state indirect tax function across cultivation, manufacturing, and retail.

You will own planning, refunds, tax technology, and risk assessment for expansion, while mentoring staff and advising on acquisitions and new markets. The role involves overseeing audits, developing policies, and partnering with Legal, Government Affairs, and Retail Ops on regulatory changes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive indirect tax experience across multi-state operations.
• 3+ years of people leadership or team management experience.
• Strong knowledge of state and local sales/use tax, excise tax, and cannabis-specific taxes.
• Experience with tax technology implementations and ERP/POS integrations.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-growing environment.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including executive-level presentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead Verano's multi-state indirect tax function, including tax compliance, planning, and audit defense.
• Own indirect tax planning strategies to minimize exposure and identify refunds and overpayments.
• Advise on new market entry, licensing, and acquisition due diligence for tax exposure.
• Monitor evolving state/local cannabis tax legislation and advise on business impact.
• Oversee resolution of complex audits, notices, and controversy matters with external advisors and authorities.
• Establish indirect tax policies, procedures, and internal controls (SOX where applicable).
• Partner with Legal, Government Affairs, and Retail Operations on regulatory changes.
• Support M&A due diligence and post-acquisition tax integration.
• Review and approve indirect tax account reconciliations and assist monthly/quarterly close.
