Job summary

National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) in Chicago seeks Senior Attorneys to provide immigration legal orientation, KYR presentations, and direct representation for immigrant children and families in school settings.

Each attorney will screen onsite, manage a caseload for EOIR and DHS, and deliver education to staff, students, and parents. Fluency in Spanish is required; prior work with schools and vulnerable populations is preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires regular communication with clients in Spanish; proficient in spoken and written Spanish.
• Must have a JD and license to practice law in the United States; minimum three years in immigration law.
• Experience working with schools or youth in Chicago is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite intake, education, and legal consultations for students and school community members in Spanish and English.
• Develop and maintain relationships with students, school staff, community organizations, and government agencies.
• Maintain an individual caseload for direct representation before EOIR and DHS, including complex cases.
• Prepare cases for interviews or hearings and draft legal papers in coordination with supervisors.
• Remain current on immigration law, policies, and procedures.
