The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) seeks a human rights/immigration attorney with all years of experience, including recent graduates, to join our nationally recognized team in a hybrid Chicago role.

Based in Chicago, the attorney will support the Immigration Court Helpdesk, guiding unrepresented individuals through removal proceedings with meticulous attention to detail, clear communication, and effective time management.

Formación

• Juris Doctor (JD) is required.
• Proficient in spoken and written Spanish.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).

Responsabilidades

• Staff the Immigration Court Helpdesk in Chicago and remotely, in rotation with other ICH staff.
• Conducts individual legal assessments with pro se participants, gathering facts for legal orientation and referrals.
• Develops and implements case strategies through independent research and collaboration.
• Monitors the ICH hotline, texts, and email inbox and responds to inquiries.
• Prepares applications, motions, notices of appeal, and other documents for pro se participants.
• Remains current on immigration law, policies, and procedures.
• Develops and maintains professional relationships with EOIR, government and social service organizations, and community groups.
• Maintains participant records and prepares timely statistical reports.
• Collaborates with other NIJC projects on Pro Se matters.
• Participates in trainings and meetings regarding procedures, data entry and case monitoring.
