Job summary

California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice (CCIJ) is hiring an experienced Staff or Senior Attorney to provide legal services and coordination for individuals in and at risk of detention in California. The role involves collaboration with the Bay Area Habeas Network and non-detained Immigration Court initiatives, with a base in Oakland, CA.

Qualifications

• Must be a member of the State Bar (CA membership recommended).
• Minimum 3 years of experience representing detained immigrants in removal proceedings or immigration-related federal litigation.
• Fluent in Spanish; able to communicate with clients without an interpreter and translate materials.
• Experience with populations served by CCIJ, including detainees and immigrant communities.
• Willingness to travel to ICE processing centers and Immigration Courts in the SF Bay Area and California detention centers.

Responsibilities

• Provide full or limited-scope legal representation in detained removal and custody cases.
• Participate in litigation and advocacy aligned with CCIJ's mission.
• Support rapid response hotline partners with legal consultations and services.
• Recruit, train, and supervise legal volunteers and partners for emergency services.
• Coordinate Rapid Response coverage in SF and Attorney of the Day programs in non-detained settings.
