Job summary

Programmers.io is seeking a Senior Developer and Architect in Baltimore, MD to lead IBM i development and modernization efforts. The role focuses on RPG Free Format (RPGLE) and IBM i technologies, with increasing leadership and IT strategy responsibilities.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on development with strong communication, problem-solving, and management skills, ready to partner with the Director of IT and evolve into a broader IT leadership role.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in IBM i development.
Strong proficiency in RPG Free Format (RPGLE) including modular and service program design.
Experience building with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or similar tools, including prompt design and review.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain IBM i applications using RPGLE and related tech.
Analyze, design, code, test, and maintain applications.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues with security, reliability, and performance.
Collaborate with business users to gather requirements and translate into technical solutions.
Lead IT projects and mentor IT staff as responsibilities expand.
