Job summary

Programmers.io is seeking an experienced RPG Programmer to design, develop, and maintain RPG-based business applications on IBM i/AS/400 platforms. You will collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into efficient, well-documented code, while ensuring performance and reliability across legacy and modern systems.

The role emphasizes problem-solving, code quality, and ongoing improvement in a dynamic environment that values practical solutions and strong collaboration

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an RPG Programmer or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of RPG IV (ILE RPG) and familiarity with RPG III is a plus.
• Experience working on IBM i (AS/400) systems.
• Understanding of database concepts, particularly DB2.
• Ability to write efficient, maintainable, and well-documented code.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, and debug RPG programs in accordance with business requirements.
• Maintain and update existing RPG applications, ensuring compatibility with current systems.
• Work closely with business analysts and stakeholders to understand functional specifications.
• Identify and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
• Document code changes and maintain clear technical documentation.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support integration efforts with other systems and platforms.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices related to RPG programming and IBM i environments.
