Job summary

Spectrum Geosurvey, based in Lymington, is seeking a proactive graduate surveyor to support fieldwork, data processing, and project delivery across onshore and offshore surveys.

You will work with senior surveyors, lead data acquisition efforts, and contribute to reports while developing skills in project management and QA/QC within a growing team.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Hydrography, Marine Geography, Marine Sciences or related field.
  • High competence in data processing, data acquisition, systems integration.
  • Experience with at least one marine survey acquisition/processing software suite.
  • Experience with training and mentoring.
  • Full valid UK driving licence (note: UK licence referenced in ad).

Responsibilities

  • Undertake fieldwork for extended periods away from home onshore/offshore projects.
  • Lead offshore surveys as a Party Chief.
  • Assist in leading data acquisition and processing; ensure data quality and reports.
  • Liaise with clients and project teams throughout the lifecycle.
  • Lead vessel mobilisations and calibrations.
  • Support and maintain QHSE standards and documentation.

Spectrum Geosurvey specialise in coastal geophysical surveys, supporting a wide range of clients in the offshore renewables sector. We have a proven track record delivering the highest-quality hydrographic and geophysical survey data. Spectrum Geosurvey are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our growing team based in our Lymington office.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of roles within the company and be prepared to travel and work away from home when required. Supported by an experienced and committed team of senior surveyors, the graduate surveyor will develop their skill set to carry out the following roles and responsibilities within our growing company.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Undertake fieldwork for extended periods of time away from home on projects onshore and offshore
  • Lead offshore surveys as a Party Chief
  • Ability to PM intermediate – complex projects
  • Assist in leading data acquisition, maintain accurate records and assist in maintaining quality and consistency of field data, data processing, deliverable creation, and data management.
  • Assist Processing and reporting managers with reporting, charting & data management
  • Assist Project Managers in project technical matters
  • Be a role model for more junior members of staff and lead by a good example
  • Be a technical authority on survey equipment and software
  • Continual training/development of junior staff and maintaining and updating training/procedural material
  • Implementing best practices for handling, maintaining and storing survey equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions or company guidance
  • Lead vessel mobilisations and calibrations
  • Liaise with clients and organisations throughout the lifecycle of projects
  • Line management of more junior staff
  • Show a high level of leadership amongst the team
  • Supporting and maintaining QHSE standards including BMS documentation
  • Undertake data processing when required
  • Take the lead of research into new technologies and arrange system/software trials to keep Spectrum on the cutting edge
  • Form part of the on call roster for weekend technical support
Required Education/ Experience & Attributes
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Hydrography, Marine Geography, Marine Sciences or a related field
  • A high level of competence in data processing, data aquisition, systems integration
  • Experience in at least one marine survey acquisition and processing software suite
  • Experience of training and mentoring
  • Experience with AutoCAD and understanding offsets/rotations to plan, perform and generate reports for Dimensional Control Surveys
  • Have at least 3 years working onboard vessels undertaking marine survey operations
  • Have lead a small team undertaking various marine survey tasks
  • Have lead vessel mobilisations and calibrations
  • High level of attention to detail
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Project Management of projects with intermediate complexity
  • Full valid UK driving licence
