Job summary

The Division of Water Resources within the State of Colorado seeks a Senior Hydrographer to provide scientific hydrographic expertise across the Hydrographic Branch. You will measure and evaluate data to determine stream flow at gaging stations, install and calibrate stations, and support water administration and interstate compact compliance.

The role involves coordinating the Division 3 hydroacoustic and surveying programs, answering technical questions from agencies and water rights owners,

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned.
• A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years.
• Knowledge and experience with Colorado water rights and water administration.
• Proficiency with Google and Microsoft suites; Excel and Sheets proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Establish stage-discharge relationships and compute discharge using hydraulic formulas for various structures.
• Inspect and calibrate telemetry equipment at gaging stations to ensure data quality.
• Maintain equipment up to date with calibrations per USGS guidelines.
• Analyze and report daily discharge data for publication.
• Assist with installation of water measurement systems and stations in Upper Rio Grande Basin.
• Compile and publish stream flow records per USGS hydrography standards.
• Train staff in precision leveling and stream surveying methods.
• Analyze hydrographic data to define hydrographic characteristics and relationships.
