Job summary

McKenney’s is seeking an HVAC Startup Technician to lead startup activities and evaluate system performance on new construction and existing projects in the Atlanta area. Responsibilities include documenting pre-functional work and maintaining action-item logs as part of the Commissioning team.

The role supports final commissioning, performs point-to-point checks, functional tests, and resolves operational deficiencies. Travel up to 25% is required, with a focus on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years commercial HVAC startup or service experience.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Technical schooling degree in HVAC/R or similar.
• Willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license and clean driving record.
• CFC certification required.

Responsibilities

• Complete project reviews with the commissioning officer before starting a project.
• Manage and perform all startup activities on a variety of project types and sizes.
• Document all pre-functional activities in our paperless Commissioning documentation systems.
• Maintain a current action item list in our paperless Commissioning documentation systems.
• Communicate job status with the project management team on a daily basis and report any issues that may impede progress.
• Assist the Commissioning project management team with equipment and system startup scheduling.
• Mentor Commissioning Group apprentices in assigned duties.
• Coordinate with other trades to keep the construction schedule on track.
• Supervise other startup technicians and apprentices as applicable.
• Travel up to 25% to job sites and customer locations.
