Job summary

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is seeking an HVAC Operator in Charge to ensure safe, efficient operation of HVAC systems at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The role involves responding to trouble calls, troubleshooting, and coordinating minor repairs while supporting maintenance teams.

Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in repair and maintenance of HVAC systems.
• Full performance knowledge of operating, testing, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC equipment.
• Ability to work independently, make decisions, and direct others to maintain or restore service.
• Ability to analyze data and interpret schematics, diagrams, and manuals to troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Skill in using tools, manuals, schematics, blueprints, and other guides in journey-level HVAC work.
• Ability to speak and write effectively; proficient computer, work order, and time/attendance use.

Responsibilities

• Receives and investigates after-hours trouble calls and takes appropriate actions.
• Records meter and gauge readings on boilers, chillers, and control panels.
• Advises supervisor on major malfunctions and safety controls.
• Restarts boilers and chillers after power outages.
• Responds to alarm panels for electrical and water distribution systems.
• Trains new employees and Performs rounds to check HVAC equipment.
• Assists in preventive maintenance and repairs of HVAC equipment.
