Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority is seeking a Senior Maintenance Mechanic to ensure smooth HVAC operations across RDU facilities. The role involves tackling diverse maintenance challenges, supporting 24/7 operations, and contributing to weather-related preparedness. The 2nd shift runs 2:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Associate degree or Apprenticeship preferred.
• 5 years of experience in directly related trade.
• 7 years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct expansion air conditioning units.
• Operate a variety of pumps (1 hp to 100 hp) for HVAC.
• Maintain the airport's AHUs and ventilation systems.
• Maintain boilers and hot water systems.
• Manage chillers and chilled water system.
• Oversee cooling towers and water systems.
• Operate variable frequency drives.
• Monitor and operate RDU Building Management Systems.

About the Role

Ensures smooth and efficient operation of the HVAC systems, keeping the RDU Airport Authority facilities running like a well-tuned aircraft. This role navigates through a variety of maintenance challenges, much like a skilled pilot adapting to changing conditions, ensuring the safe and reliable function of our public facility. Additionally, the Senior Maintenance Mechanic plays a crucial role in weather-related operations, such as snow removal or hurricane preparedness, ensuring our 24/7 operation remains airborne without turbulence.

This is a 2nd shift position, working from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The schedule will be either Sunday through Thursday (with Friday and Saturday off) or Tuesday through Saturday (with Sunday and Monday off).

Compensation

• Maximum - Based on experience
• Minimum - $ 27.89
• Employees working second shift are eligible for a $1.00 per hour shift differential.

What You’ll Do

• Direct expansion air conditioning units
• A variety of pumps associated with HVAC, from 1 hp to 100 hp throughout the airport
• The airport's AHUs and ventilation systems
• Boilers and hot water system
• Chillers and chilled water system
• Cooling towers
• Variable frequency drives
• Monitors and operates all RDU Building Management Systems
• Maintains and assists with HVAC water treatment.

What You Need

Education

Required:

• High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

• Associate degree or Apprentice Program

Experience

Required:

• 5 years of experience in directly related trade.

Preferred:

• 7 years of experience in directly related trade.

Licenses or Certifications

Required:

• Valid NC Driver's License

Preferred:

• Valid NC State Heating Contractor License - H1 and H3 license.
• CDL class B License (or ability to obtain within 9 months)

Emergency/Weather Status

This position is considered Essential. This means this department and role are essential to operations and required to be on-site when there is an airport incident (emergency/weather).
