Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group Inc. is seeking an experienced HVAC Superintendent to lead field operations for commercial HVAC construction projects in the Charleston, SC area.

You will oversee crews, manage schedules, ensure safety, and coordinate with clients and partners to deliver high-quality outcomes. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of supervising HVAC construction, strong knowledge of systems and piping, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years supervising commercial HVAC construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork, mechanical piping, and equipment installation.
• Proven leadership of field personnel, subcontractors, and multiple project phases.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Strong understanding of scheduling, manpower planning, and field coordination.
• OSHA 30 preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day field operations for commercial HVAC construction projects.
• Lead and coordinate foremen, field crews, subcontractors, vendors, equipment, and materials.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, sequencing, and manpower plans.
• Monitor field productivity and ensure milestones and deadlines are met.
• Coordinate HVAC work with Project Managers, general contractors, subcontractors, and other trades.
• Participate in project meetings with clients, general contractors, engineers, and project partners.
• Identify field challenges and develop solutions to keep projects moving.
• Promote and enforce VMG safety policies and OSHA requirements.
• Conduct jobsite safety meetings, inspections, and toolbox talks.
• Identify and address potential hazards, incidents, and near misses.
• Ensure HVAC systems are installed according to drawings, specifications, codes, and VMG standards.
• Monitor workmanship and address quality concerns; coordinate inspections, testing, startup, and punch lists.
• Plan manpower, materials, equipment, and resources to support project schedules.
• Monitor daily production, labor productivity, and field progress.
• Coordinate equipment and material deliveries to prevent delays.
• Review drawings, specs, submittals, and documents.
• Maintain daily reports, manpower logs, schedules, and project docs.
• Coordinate startup, testing, inspections, and closeout activities.
• Lead and develop the team; coach foremen, apprentices, and field staff.
