Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer in Herndon, VA to join the HV/MV Design Engineering team focused on data center power infrastructure.

You’ll translate complex requirements into robust substation designs and construction documents while collaborating with multiple internal and external groups. With 6+ years in engineered electrical design for mission-critical facilities, you’ll lead projects from concept through commissioning, travel up to 20% and mentor junior

Qualifications

• 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
• Experience with design or construction administration of electrical distribution systems from low to high voltage.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or 12+ years of related electrical experience including 5 years substation design.
• Cumulative 7+ years of electrical design experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead data center substation design within a multi-team context.
• Collaborate with internal teams to define user requirements.
• Support site selection reviews and construction documents.
• Produce designs and equipment specifications within budget and quality targets.
• Review and approve equipment submittals.
• Coordinate with utilities and local agencies to meet codes and requirements.
• Assist commissioning and startup activities and travel as needed.
