Housewrights in Madison, WI seeks a Senior HR Generalist to own day-to-day HR operations and partner with leadership on people strategies. You’ll manage recruitment, employee relations, benefits, compliance, and HR systems while driving improvements in employee experience and retention.

This role combines hands-on HR execution with strategic initiatives to support growth and organizational development within the design-build firm.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive, broad-based Human Resources experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • SHRM-CP/SHRM‑SCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Experience independently owning and executing responsibilities across multiple areas of HR.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, recruiting, benefits and leave administration, performance management, compensation, employment law, compliance, and HR systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute the full recruiting and hiring process, including sourcing, interviewing, selection, offers, and onboarding
  • Provide day-to-day HR guidance and support directly to employees and managers on policies, performance, employee relations, and workplace concerns
  • Coach managers through performance issues, difficult conversations, employee development, and conflict resolution
  • Administer benefits, leave programs, accommodations, and related employee communications
  • Maintain HR policies, employee records, compliance requirements, HR systems, and position descriptions
  • Support safety, workers’ compensation, OSHA documentation, and related HR compliance activities
  • Coordinate employee and compensation changes with Payroll and support compensation and market reviews
  • Develop and carry out employee engagement, retention, development, and recognition initiatives
  • Use employee feedback and workforce data to identify trends and recommend improvements
  • Partner with leadership on workforce planning, organizational needs, and people strategies that support long‑term growth

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Human Resources Generalist to support our growing team and take ownership of the day‑to‑day HR function while contributing to broader people strategies. As Housewrights’ dedicated HR professional, you’ll independently carry out the day‑to‑day HR work while partnering closely with company leadership and broader HR resources as needed. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, building trusted relationships, and staying closely connected to the business. You’ll partner with leadership to understand workforce needs, strengthen the employee experience and retention, and develop practical HR solutions that support our people and continued growth.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of progressive, broad‑based Human Resources experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred

  • Experience independently owning and executing responsibilities across multiple areas of HR

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with day‑to‑day HR execution
  • Experience advising, coaching, and building strong relationships with leaders and managers
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to understand operational needs and translate them into practical people solutions
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, project management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing needs, and follow responsibilities through from start to finish while maintaining discretion and confidentiality
  • Experience with HRIS, applicant tracking, benefits administration, Microsoft Office, and related HR technology platforms
