Job summary

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or related duties; or
  • High school graduation and six years of related experience; or
  • Education/experience equivalent to the above with at least one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and analytical support to the Recruitment Unit under HR leadership.
  • Coordinate creation, editing, and processing of job postings and interview workflows.
  • Ensure recruitment activities comply with city, state, and federal rules.
  • Prepare application materials for review by DEIB Office.
  • Assist in developing and implementing recruitment strategies.
  • Represent NYC Parks at career fairs and community events to promote opportunities.
  • Conduct information sessions and build partnerships to promote civil service exams.
  • Serve as liaison across units to support recruitment initiatives.
  • Review recruitment data and metrics to inform decisions and improvements.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports from multiple sources.
  • Provide input on policies and procedures and respond to inquiries.
  • Conduct training sessions to support recruitment operations.
  • Manage special projects to advance Recruitment Unit objectives.

Human Resources (HR) oversees recruitment and interviews for the Agency and maintains data on all Parks & Recreation employees. HR also administers the Agency's performance evaluation program, prepares job descriptions and oversees all changes to an employee's status with the Agency, including promotions, resignations, transfers and tax and address changes. coordination

Major Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Human Resources, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, provide administrative and analytical support to the Recruitment Unit.
  • Coordinate the creation, editing, and processing of job postings; manage interview workflows; and ensure all recruitment activities comply with internal procedures and city, state, and federal regulations.
  • Prepare application materials for review by the Agency’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Office.
  • Assist in developing and implementing recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates.
  • Represent NYC Parks at career fairs, community events, and other outreach activities, promoting job opportunities and enhancing the Agency’s visibility.
  • Conduct information sessions and maintain partnerships with schools and community organizations to promote civil service exams and Parks career pathways.
  • Serve as a liaison across internal units and with other city agencies to support recruitment initiatives.
  • Review recruitment data and metrics to identify trends and inform decision making.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare comprehensive reports using data from multiple sources.
  • Provide input on policies and procedures, resolve issues as they arise, recommend improvements and respond to inquiries.
  • Conduct training sessions as needed to support recruitment operations.
  • Manage special projects and assignments to advance Recruitment Unit objectives.

Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee between $40.00 to $101.00 based on the salary range of title. Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be subject to a $104.50 background check fee.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in recruitment, including a solid understanding of Agency and City policies, procedures and compliance requirements. 2. Strong knowledge of Agency structure and operations. 3. Familiarity with civil service rules and regulations. 4. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and HR information systems, including NYCAPS, Payroll Management System (PMS), and SmartRecruiters able to use technology to streamline HR workflows. 5. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment. 6. Ability to handle confidential matters.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
