Job summary

Intuitive is seeking a Senior Human Factors Engineer to work with the Ion Human Factors team, guiding development of new products through user-centered research, usability testing, and risk analyses. You’ll collaborate with designers, clinical engineers, and regulatory affairs to ensure usability and safety across products.

The role emphasizes leading studies, creating usability requirements, and mentoring junior engineers, with international travel up to 25%. A BS is required; MS preferred.

Qualifications

• BS in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science with HCI emphasis, Human Centered Design, or related field. MS strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6 years with a master’s; or relevant PhD with 3+ years.
• Experience in medical device or other highly regulated industry is valuable.
• Ability to conduct user research studies in diverse populations (portfolio required).
• Ability to conduct traditional and rapid-cycle evaluation of products (prototype testing, usability testing, field testing).
• Experience with data collection tools (e.g., Qualtrics).
• Ability to analyze and synthesize large quantities of qualitative and quantitative data using QDA software and statistical tools.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct user-centered research, analyze use-related risks, and guide product usability.
• Lead usability testing of products prior to launch and iterate designs in field.
• Develop and translate usability requirements for UI, training and labeling.
• Collaborate across engineering, design, regulatory, and clinical teams to ensure usability and safety.
