Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Medical Equipment Technician to perform routine and preventative maintenance on a broad range of electromechanical medical devices. The role requires independent servicing of complex systems in high acuity clinical areas.

The candidate will document actions, comply with medical device regulations, and collaborate with Information Services and peers to resolve issues, while building strong relationships with clinical teams.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.

Job description

Position Summary/ Department Summary:

Performs routine repairs and preventative maintenance inspections/calibrations on a broad range of electromechanical medical equipment. Independently, complex medical device systems and high-risk equipment in high acuity clinical areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently services complex medical device systems and high‑risk equipment.
  • Works collaboratively with Information Services Department and other support service departments to manage integrated medical systems.
  • Performs routine repairs on a broad range of electromechanical medical equipment using basic test equipment and repair tools. Prepares and maintains related documentation.
  • Performs preventative maintenance testing of routine electromechanical medical equipment according to established procedures.
  • Understands medical device regulations and ensures assigned medical devices are managed in compliance with those regulations.
  • Participates in inspection tours of clinical and/or research areas using medical equipment.
  • Documents all service actions and complies with documentation guidelines and metrics defined in department policy.
  • Builds and maintains customer relationships and independently manages clinical resource area(s).
  • Consults and collaborates with peers to resolve outstanding issues.
  • Acts as a technical resource for both colleagues and clinical customer base.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate's Degree is required. Occupationally specific education in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience is required.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good‑faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
